TheFocusedFilmographer Presents: The 4th Annual RED WEB AWARDS

January 10, 2014

4th annual red websIt is time for The 4th ANNUAL RED WEB AWARDS!

This upcoming Sunday (January 12th), the Golden Globe Awards will air on television! Several deserving nominees will hope to achieve a win in this “pre-Oscar” award ceremony that celebrates and honors the performances and efforts in cinema over the past year. From Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) to Idris Elba (Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom) to Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) to Spike Jonze (Her) and more, many will be curious to see who will win a Golden Globe this upcoming Sunday.ben-affleck-golden-globes

(See the official nominations [and list of winners after Sunday's ceremony] HERE.)

Award season is always fun! But sometimes, certain films/directors/actors don’t get the recognition I (along with many other film lovers) feel they may deserve. (Oftentimes leaving me feeling as upset as Jennifer Lawrence was in American Hustle.)

So, since that is often the case, a few years ago I decided to host my own “Golden Globes/Oscars” of sorts, in which you get to help participate and choose the winners.redwebawards

This prestigous award, entitled The RED WEB AWARD, (or “The Webbies” as they’ve endearingly become known as to a few) allows the people…you…to award those truly deserving and pays homage to the dedication, cinematic success, inspiration, and amazement of the nominees. (In case you didn’t know, it’s called the “red web” because I’m a pretty big Spiderman fan.)

Each award ceremony to date has been a pretty big success (1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year -with over 700 votes!) and I always look forward to the fun. (Last year the uncanny Morgan Freeman and the beautiful Marion Cotillard were the hosts of the award-results ceremony! Check out their promo pic from the 3rd Annual RWAs:rwahosts

Wait ’til you see who will host THIS year’s Award-Results Ceremony (Here on Wednesday, January 15th)! Don’t miss it. The surprise host and/or hosts will be revealed on that day, however, I can tell you that, unfortunately, it will not be Idris Elba as he is too busy trying to cancel the apocalypse, so please don’t let that influence your voting in any way, shape or form. ;)

Here’s How the RWAs Work:

A panel of 10 judges has been assembled. (Made up of 7 fantastic movie bloggers, 2 great friends/contributors of the site, and myself). Each judge submitted their nominees for the award categories that you will be voting on. Meet your panel of nominating judges that added their nominations for this year’s RED WEB AWARD categories:

Please visit their respective sites, listed below.

Below you will find 9 polls. Please do the following:

Remember: Vote for TWO nominees per category!

Remember: Vote for TWO nominees per category!

(In the actual Golden Globes there are over 20 categories. I had to narrow it down as best as I could. While some categories I would love to have included, the 9 below were the final choices.)golden-globes

Just put in my votes! Some of them were quite hard to pick since I did not see all the movies yet so voted on the ones I did see.

    • January 10, 2014 9:53 pm

Thanks for participating. Some of these are indeed difficult to choose! Can’t wait for the awards on Wednesday.

Voted. But I have to ask, how on earth did “Grown Ups 2″ not make the worst movies list? What a steaming pile of garbage

    • January 10, 2014 9:55 pm

Ooh, a good call there, Keith. Grown Ups 2 did stink…so bad. But it just wasn’t among the lists from the nominating panel. Let’s just chalk that up to so many people wishing not to even acknowledge its existence haha.

      Thanks for voting.

Grown Ups 2? Selma saved that from getting nominated.

I think you have Now You See Me in the wrong place. I was most surprised by that movie. I thought it would suck but I really liked it.

    • January 10, 2014 9:57 pm

A decent surprise to be sure, but it was actually nominated as a “worst” by more than a couple judges. Some who wished the title was “Now You’ll Never See Me” haha.

Thank you for voting. I can’t wait for the results on Wednesday!

I agree. Now You See Me was not a bad movie. It wasn’t great but definitely didn’t deserve to be on the worst of the year list.

  5. January 10, 2014 3:23 pm

    Voted. Great stuff on this.

I love that you mention Will Forte in your underappreciated performances of ’13! What a gem of a role that he pulled off perfectly while being able to hold his own against the legend that is Bruce Dern! :)

    • January 15, 2014 12:07 am

Glad to have you hear as a part of the RWAs. Thanks for voting!
