Movie News Monday for July 26, 2010!

Well, I hope you all had a great weekend! If you did, may this week be better! If you didn’t, may this week be better!! Regardless, it’s Monday! and that means……….tada!!! “Movie News Monday!” What’s MNM? Every ”Movie News Monday” this is the place for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! Keeping you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Hope you enjoy!

This Just In!!!….

#1Salt just wasn’t the best flavor of the week! Even though the new Jolie movie earned $36.5 million this weekend, it still was not the #1 spot over the weekend in the box office! All Hail Inception! Winner for the second weekend in a row with a reported earnings of $43.5 million! So far, Inception has earned over $143 million! Congrats to the cast and crew. In other weekend box office news, Despicable Me ranked third with $24 million! While Toy Story3 did release two weeks before Twilight did, I thought it was neat that it was $100 million ahead of Twilight overall. Not sure that Twilight can catch up! What do you think?

#2Amanda Bynes loves Brett Favre. I told you so! Can I please take this moment to put down in the records an official “I told you so!”? Click here for my retirement-questioning article! A MONTH after claiming retirement from acting, Amanda Bynes stated this past week that she has “unretired.” She claimed that one of her main reasons for retiring was that she had never gotten the chance to write any of her own movies and always had to play the part that another producer or director wanted her to do…(um, isn’t that what acting is about?) I think she goes down in the historical archives as being the person with the shortest retirement ever….a month!! Anyways, she will be in the movie Easy A which releases on September 17th in theaters. (out of respect to my sister, I will not post on here that I wish Kristen Stewart would retire too! Love ya, sis! :))

#3– Mark Makes It! So, if you have been following Movie News Monday, or Comic-Con, or any other comicbook newsreels, then you know that many people, including myself, were upset over the fact that Ed Norton would not be reprising his role as The Hulk in the upcoming Avengers movie from Marvel. So, the question was, “Who then?” That question has been answered. Mark made the cut! Mark Ruffalo, who is probably mostly known for his more recent role in Shutter Island as DiCaprio’s partner, will be Bruce Banner in The Avengers movie! I think he will do a good job. It is frustrating though that Marvel has had to use 3 different actors for The Hulk. Keep it simple guys! On another note, the director of The Avengers has gotten less attention than the actors and characters lately, so allow me to share. Joss Whedon is the director of this exciting film. He was involved in a few “small” films such as Toy Story, Xmen, Serenity, Alien Resurrection, Speed, Titan A.E. and the tv show Firefly, etc! Can’t wait to see his work with The Avengers!

Robert Downey Jr., Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and writer-director Joss Whedon. The group made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con to promote "Thor" "Captain America" and "The Avengers"!!

#4– Predators 2? again? Robert Rodriguez, who directed the most recent remake of Predators, is said to be in talks to make a sequel. He just finished directing Machete, which releases September 3rd. It would appear that Fox studios really wants Predators to happen. Rodriguez has a lot of people asking him to be involved in a lot of projects…which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But he will have to say “no” to someone. He’s finishing Spy Kids4 and is wanted for Sin City2, Deadpool, Predators sequel, and in my opinion, as long as he is able to dedicate a good amount of time to make them all good, then…go for it! One thing Rodriguez is pretty good at is sequels. (El Mariachi, Desperado, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico) (Spy Kids 1, 2, 3, ……) So, we’ll see. I’d like him to do Sin City2 first and foremost. Just saying!

#5– and Finally, I almost forgot the Blu-ray/DVD release for Tuesday to keep a lookout for. (Drumroll please….) Clash of the Titans! While this remake had it’s disappointments in relation to the original, it still deserves a nod! I liked it.

But, while Clash will be getting a lot of attention, I really wanted to give the spotlight to the movie Repo Men that releases on Blu-ray/DVD tomorrow. This film got a lot of media, including a website for a nationwide bounty hunt of real people that travelled across the U.S. If you signed up to be part of the program, it was your task to locate the “targets” (if they entered into your city), take a pic of them, submit it, and be entered into a drawing for amazing prizes. One of the target people actually travelled to my city and was in a lecture hall at my local university. I didn’t find him. Oh well. Repo Men is about the repossession of artificial organs that were purchased on credit and payment is overdue. Thought it was neat. Check it out!

Thanks for reading! Happy watching!

up next: “Time to Vote Tuesday”

  1. I absolutely love Joss Whedon. Firefly is one of my favorite shows of all time. Easily. I’ve enjoyed pretty much anything that Joss has gotten his hands on. Totally excited that he’s running the show on Avengers. Also love the picture of the actors standing together. Marvel is showing that they are really paying attention to details here. There height comparisons are almost identical to their comic character profiles. Thor should be the tallest out of the heroes they’ve selected (Well, except when Bruce is transformed into the 10ft, 1000+ pound Hulk), followed by Cap and so on. Nice job.
