Keeping you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Hope you enjoy! Let’s get started, shall we?
This Just In!!!….
#1– Weekend Box Office Warriors! Last week I predicted to you all that no one would take out The Expendables over the weekend. Did Stallone’s movie win for the second weekend in a row? It did indeed. This weekend saw a tremendous drop in revenue for individual movies overall. I’m not sure if it’s because there were too many movies that released, none that were interesting to viewers, or if it was because a lot of schools started session this week. But in past weekends movies earned between $20 million and $30 million. Not so this weekend. Here are the very close results for this past weekend: (1) The Expendables $16.5 million,(2)Vampires Suck $12.2 million, (3)Eat Pray Love $12 million, (4)Lottery Ticket $11.1 million, (5)The Other Guys $10.1 million, (6)Piranha 3D $10 million, (7)Nanny McPhee Returns $8.3 million, (8)The Switch $8.1 million, (9)Inception $7.6 million, and (10)Scott Pilgrim vs The World $5.3 million.
[Editor’s Note: I have to say that I’m a little surprised at The Switch‘s debut….this movie was the best one that released this past weekend, IMO. Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman were the underdogs I was cheering for.]
#2– Fantastic Reboot? Ok, so if you haven’t heard already, Spiderman4 is coming out! Well, it’s really Spiderman 1 again, just a rebooted version with a whole new cast and storyline. Most of you already knew that. BUT, did you know that there is a reboot in the making for The Fantastic Four? I know you didn’t! Neither did I until now. Good thing you read Movie News Monday, huh?! 🙂 That’s right, Marvel fans. After the Silver Surfer FF4 sequel, Fox and Marvel have decided to reboot the franchise, hoping for the same type of success that Spiderman producers are hoping for. The Hulk did it! Why not everyone else? I must say that I am a little concerned with the speed of production of all these comic movies. Anyone else? Well, the rumored actors contending for the lead of Dr. Reed Richards in the new Fantastic Four project are Adrien Brody (Predators) and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (From Paris with Love). Other actors are rumored to be vying for a spot in the “reborn” project for the Fantastic Four. Keep a lookout FOUR more news.
#3-Steve, George, and Shia….sounds like a music group from the 60s. Well, that might be better than what’s to come! Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have started writing the script for Indiana Jones 5!!! Not sure on Harrison Ford’s role, if any. But, yes, Shia LaBeouf will be in it. I wish that George Lucas would learn from the latest, and worst, Indiana Jones movie that released…..1-no one liked Shia LaBeouf in the movie, and 2-no one can survive a nuclear blast by jumping in a lead-lined fridge, and 3- outlandish schemes don’t work so well. Well, apparently Lucas doesn’t care. Rumor has it that he is already taking crazy to the next level with certain plans in the making that may just “blow” the fridge scene from Indy4 away. Just leave well enough alone. I am honestly starting to get tired of sooo many sequels. Bring the originality back! Kudos to directors like J.J. Abrams and Christopher Nolan, may you live forever! Keep an eye out for more Indy5 news.
#4– and finally, What releases on DVD/Blu-Ray tomorrow? Just like last week, again…NOTHING! Nothing good, anyways, seems to be coming out this week. The Back-Up Plan releases on the 24th. Jennifer Lopez stars with a bunch of not-well-known actors as a woman who, through artificial insemination, gets pregnant with twins on the same day that she meets the man she falls in love with. The slogan for this movie is “Fall in love.* Get married. Have a baby. *Not necessarily in that order.” This movie continues to have horrible ratings all over the place. If you really need to see a movie like this with similarities…go see The Switch in theaters. Trust me.
Okay everyone, Enjoy your week!
Thanks for reading! Happy watching!
Oh, and btw, if you haven’t voted on last week’s poll in “Time To Vote Tuesday!”, please do. There currently is a tie for first place for the best of the 3 original Star Wars movies. The poll closes soon, and it just can’t end on a tie! Click here to go to the poll. Thanks everyone!
up next: Vampires Suck, (tomorrow: The Switch, and “Time to Vote Tuesday”)
