Movie News Monday for September 6, 2010!

Welcome to Movie News Monday/Tuesday” (depending on what area of the world you live!) I hope that your Labor Day was great! Sorry for the delay of MNM, but..as promised..I’m back!!!!! What is MNM all about? Every “Movie News Monday” this is the place for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! Keeping you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Hope you enjoy! Let’s get down to business. Got some goodies to catch you up on!

#1– Weekend Box-Office Winner. This American holiday weekend went to the movie with a similar title. The American defeated Machete and all other titles thru the weekend. With $13million over the very slow weekend, The American crept to the top. Takers placed second with $11.5million, and Machete made the cut at third with $11.3million. Fourth and Fifth places were The Last Exorcism with $7.6million and Going the Distance with $6.9million. Very low earnings over the weekend, but, then again, too many barbeques to go to!! 🙂 I was nowhere to be found at any theater this weekend, myself. (Which is very out of the ordinary!) In other box office news, this weekend marked the 8th week of Inception‘s run in theaters. So far, Inception as accumulated $277.2million!! Pretty impressive!

#2– Sequel Alert: Sequels, Prequels, and Remakes seem to be the “thing” for Hollywood lately. Over the past few editions of “Movie News Mondays”, you’ve learned of several such movies that are in the makings. So….here are a few more titles/projects that I have learned are in negotiations. Keep tabs on your favorite…if there is any. Clash of the Titans (sequel), Kicka$% (sequel), Final Destination5 (sequel to 4), Aliens (Two-part 3D prequel…Ridley Scott to direct), Conan (remake),  Journey to the Center of the Earth (sequel…withOUT Brendan Fraser–who is being replaced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), Unbreakable (sequel…Shyamalan rumored to be working on it), The Three Musketeers (remake in 3D), Xerxes (sequel/follow-up to 300…Zack Snyder to direct), and Judge Dredd (remake). Pretty interesting, huh?

#3– “That’s Just Prime!” Footage in the video below shows that “possibly” Sentinel Prime will be featured in Transformers3!!! Sentinel Prime–for those of you who don’t know–was the predecessor of Optimus Prime and led the Autobots until he was killed in a battle on Cybertron. Pretty cool.

#4– Blu-Ray/DVD release to watch for on New Release Tuesday the 7th of September: Killers! Click here to read the review. If you don’t want to buy it, at least rent it! Stream it using CinemaNow, since Netflix will make you wait for a couple weeks for new releases. I’m glad it’s coming out! Don’t miss it.

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

  1. First, I was pretty unhappy about the Alien prequel, until you said Ridley Scott was gonna direct, now I must say it sounds kind of interesting. Second, CinemaNow? That’s hilarious. Are you getting paid for that? 😉

  2. yes, Ridley Scott is talking about it right now, actually, quite a bit! Can’t wait. It’s supposed to take place in 2085 before Siquorney Weaver’s character shows up. We’ll see!

and, no, unfortunately…CinemaNow probably doesn’t even know that my site exists, but, I love their system and wanted to share it! I picked it up at my local best buy store a few months back! 🙂

Thanks for commenting. It is, as always, appreciated! happy watching!

  3. Wow! I have been amazed…and appalled…at all of the sequels/prequels/remakes I have learned about and written about the past couple of weeks! I wish that creativity and originality flowed through more brains of writers in hollywood these days. I was amazed to read about the Gladiator2 script on your link. Thanks for putting the link here. Now, what would be fun, would be Maximus and his army vs Leonidas and his Spartans…..or, both forces up against Xerxes! What do you think? Perhaps we can write THAT screenplay with Ridley Scott as director! 🙂

  4. Yeah, the situation in Hollywood is just sad. I mean there are some creativity in indie movies, but the mainstream ones are full of garbage. I mean The Expendables was just terrible, I finally saw it this weekend and I was cringing the whole time I wrote my review!

Oh boy, I don’t know if I want to mix Leonidas and Maximus. I love both of them, but they belong in separate movies 🙂

  5. Unbreakable is absolutely my favorite M. Night film. It is actually one of my favorite films period. I hope that he is actually making it. Unbreakable was originally supposed to be the first installment of a trilogy. Keeping my fingers crossed.
