From TheScarletSp1der’s shelf to yours…#2

As I was sharing my website with someone the other day (Those of you who know me, know that I talk about it and hand out the site’s business card all the time!) they asked me if I only review new movies, or if I talk about older ones also. I immediately mentioned this segment that I love to call “From TheScarletSp1der’s shelf to yours…”

Do you like to collect movies? If you do, you know the importance of excellent movies being in your collection. It is quality, not quantity, that equates to a worthy movie collection. As I said last time, “You may have 500 movies, but if 375 of them are horrible….then your neighbor with 75 classics has a better collection! In my opinion.” Hopefully these segments will help you in your quest for the perfect movie collection. Today you get to take another peek into my own personal movie stash.

My movie to share from my shelf to yours today is: Frequency

A rare and natural phenomenom unlocks a supernatural possibility enabling the down-on-his-luck John Sullivan (Jim Caviezel) to communicate into the past with his father (Dennis Quaid)…who, precisely 30 years ago, perished in the line of duty as a firefighter. Through shortwave communication he is able to help prevent his father’s untimely death 30 years ago. However, changing something in the past always has dire consequences for the present/future. Now they must work together to alter the changes made in order to restore the “natural order of things.”

This timeline bending movie is riddled with themes similar to those in other films such as The Butterfly Effect (Ironically, Frequency and The Butterfly Effect share the same writer: Toby Emmerich). Suspense, mystery, sci-fi, drama, and action are just a few of the genres that may be used when describing this film. As you watch this movie span time and space, hope will cross your heart and mind as you cross your fingers in anticipation of how the plot and story all come to fruition. What would you do if you could change the past? Do you think a “present” resulting from a changed past would be better, or worse, than the present you currently live in? The grass is always greener….

Dennis Quaid (G.I. Joe, The Rookie, Pandorum), Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ, The Count of Monte Cristo), Andre Braugher (The Mist, Poseidon, Glory) and more star in this week’s choice from 2000. Directed by Gregory Hoblit (Fallen, Primal Fear, Untraceable), nominated for a Golden Globe and 6 other awards, and winner of 2 awards overall, Frequency is a definite gem that belongs in all movie enthusiast’s treasure cove! Add it to your shelf and watch it today!

Thanks for reading!

Enjoy if you wish…or don’t enjoy! Happy watching!…and have a great weekend!

The Spider’s Score: I’m not going to rate the movies in the “Shared Shelf” segments….I already own them! That’s gotta tell you something! 🙂
