Movie News Monday for September 20, 2010!

Well, It’s Monday! You made it! Today is officially now “Movie News Monday!” Hooray!!! What is MNM all about? In case you don’t know, every “Movie News Monday” this is the place for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! Keeping you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Hope you enjoy!

This Just In!!!…

#1-“Weekend Warrior.” Winning the box office this weekend was Ben Affleck’s new film The Town. Pulling in $23.8 million, The Town beat 2nd place Easy A by $5 million. Easy A made $18.2 million and Devil came in third with $12.5 million. Interestingly enough, Resident Evil: Afterlife came in fourth with $10.1 million. Alpha and Omega actually earned $9.2 million beating Takers, The American, Inception, and The Other Guys. Which film did you check out this weekend? Look for reviews to come shortly.

#2-“Too Many Fast and Too Many Furious?!” You guessed it! In the world of Hollywood where sequels never cease The Fast and The Furious are headed in the same direction. Four films have already been made and a fifth one is on the way. Looking to be a two-part saga, the synopsis for F&F5 apparently will have Paul Walker and Vin Diesel racing in locations all around the world in a global race. To quote a statement from “In this installment, former cop Brian O’Conner (Walker) partners with ex-con Dom Toretto (Diesel) on the opposite side of the law. Dwayne Johnson joins returning favorites Jordana Brewster, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon, and Don Omar for this ultimate high-stakes race.” Look for news to come on F&F5 as it’s scheduled release date is June 10, 2011.

#3-“The Search for a Superman.” At this point in time, who knows who the new Superman is going to be for the upcoming superhero film? Tenatively entitled Superman: The Man of Steel, the film still does not have a leading actor. Producer Christopher Nolan has stated that he currently hasn’t even put any thought into it at this time, and as a result many rumors surrounding the casting call choices for the last son of Krypton have circulated the internet. The latest “victim” to be placed in the rumor mill is actor Jon Hamm (Mad Men). Jon Hamm has the look to play the part, but stated that he hasn’t been approached about it and feels he may be too old to do so. Who do you think should play Superman if Brandon Routh truly is not reprising his role (which hasn’t been confirmed yet either)?

#4-“Nope, this isn’t Transformers.” Over two years ago there were announcements made that the Transformer’s competition from the 80’s was getting a movie of it’s own. That’s correct! A Voltron movie was in the making. Unfortunately, things did not go the way they had been planned and the project was killed. Well, hooray for resurrections! The Voltron movie may be a possibility once again very soon. Just recently the writers of the Conan remake film were hired by Atlas Entertainment to begin working on a screenplay for a live action Voltron film.  Three pieces of concept art were just released on giving an idea of what one of my favorite childhood cartoons would look like when brought to the big screen. All I have to say is, Transformers better bring it in the next film! Courtesy of here are the three concept art pieces. Enjoy!!

#5-Blu-Ray/DVD release for Tuesday, September 21st: Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett! Going back to the beginning of the Sire of Locksley, this film finally makes its way to Blu-Ray. Check out the review here if you missed it. Go rent or buy the film this Tuesday and enjoy!

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

up next: “Time to Vote Tuesday”

  1. I really don’t know what to think about Jon Hamm as Superman… it’s such a beloved character for me. I did like Brandon Routh, but I still think it’s impossible for anyone to top Chris Reeve.

    • You know, I watched The Town today, and as I watched Hamm I don’t think he would make a good Superman. He looks the part, but I’m not certain he would pull it off so well. At least Nick Cage isn’t in the running for Superman…even though that’s always been his dream! 🙂

  2. I think Routh should return as Superman. We all still await the director and writer that can bring the Man of Steel and Dark Knight together on the big screen.
