Movie News Monday for March 7, 2011!

Welcome back! The weekend is over and it is time to return to your weekly routine…beginning with another great edition of “Movie News Monday!” In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday! (MNM)” is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.” On last week’s box office poll, you -the readers- voted that Rango would win the weekend box office. Several films took up arms against each other in the box office ring this weekend. The Adjustment Bureau, Beastly, Rango, and more. But your votes rang true! Johnny Depp’s fun-filled animated adventure, Rango, won! It actually had the highest grossing opening weekend of any movie so far of 2011….and it’s not even in 3D! Here are the results of the weekend:

  1. Rango ~$38 million (NEW RELEASE)
  2. The Adjustment Bureau ~$21.2 million (NEW RELEASE)
  3. Beastly ~$9.9 million (NEW RELEASE)
  4. Hall Pass ~$8.9 million
  5. Gnomeo & Juliet ~$7.2 million
  6. Unknown ~$6.5 million
  7. Just Go With It ~$6.4 million
  8. The King’s Speech ~$6.2 million
  9. I Am Number Four ~$5.8 million
  10. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never ~$4.3 million
  11. Take Me Home Tonight ~$3.5 million (NEW RELEASE)—#11 spot!!!

Congrats to Rango on a very impressive, and well-deserved, win! See?! I told you, in my review, that people would be singing praises of Rango !

#2- “Go, JOE!” Well, if “knowing is half the battle,” then we’ve got a long way to go to see G.I. Joe redeemed from the disappointment of the first installment of the live action movies. Some good news and some (opinion-based) bad news for G.I. Joe 2 !

First, the good stuff. Director Stephen Sommers declined to return for the sequel and after much deliberation, director Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Step Up 2, Step Up 3D) has been officially chosen as the director. The release date for the sequel to 2009’s blockbuster has been set for August 10, 2012. Now here’s where the bad news comes in. This past week, Rachel Nichols (Scarlett in Rise of Cobra) tweeted that only 3 characters from Rise of Cobra would be returning for the sequel: Storm Shadow (Lee Byung-hun), Snake Eyes (Ray Park), and Duke (Channing Tatum). So that means that we have to suffer through Chu’s golden boy Tatum…again…and there will be no Marlon Wayans 😉 , Dennis Quaid, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, or Sienna Miller in G.I. Joe 2 ! What do you think of this G.I. Joe news? Let the debates begin!

"Parting is such sweet sorrow."

#3- ”Snow and Stewart” Okay. So you all may know by now how much I just LOVE Kristen Stewart…..NOT! ha! But she has been cast as the lead in a film that actually may turn out to change my opinion of her acting: Snow White and the Huntsman ! Stewart will play the part of Snow White, while Viggo Mortensen will be the Huntsman and Charlize Theron has been cast as the Evil Queen! Apparently, as the title would have it, the story will focus even more on the Huntsman’s story along with Snow White. In the original story, The Huntsman released Snow White after being ordered to kill her.

The film will follow the two who escape, chained together, from bounty hunters. The Huntsman then teaches Snow White how to fight against her evil step-mother. All the while, The Huntsman is haunted by the killer of his wife (a white wolf), and Snow White still has her love interest. We’ll see how this shapes up, but Stewart’s costars are of a higher caliber than hers in the past. So Stewart looks to have a chance! 😉 Snow White and the Huntsman is set to release in 2012. Here’s hoping!

#4- “New Posters and Trailers!” A few soon-to-come movies have released some new trailers, posters, and pics!

First: Conan The Barbarian ! Set to release August 19, 2011. Starring Jason Momoa, Ron Perlman, Rachel Nichols, and Rose McGowan. Click HERE to see the new 3D poster! It’s pretty neat!

Second: Thor ! Set to release May 6, 2011. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, and Natalie Portman. Here’s the new banner and poster for Marvel’s Norse god.

Fourth: Puss in Boots ! Set to release November 4, 2011. Starring Antonio Banderas, Walt Dohrn, and Zeus Mendoza. Here’s the movie poster and trailer!

Lot’s of new exciting stuff! Which one has your attention?

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release” Two films release this week that I enjoyed. Morning Glory and The Next Three Days. Click the pics below for the respective reviews!

Also, Academy Award Winning documentary, Inside Job also releases alongside Jackass 3D

*Two little random facts: Today I looked up Justin Bieber’s movie Never Say Never on IMDB… has a rank of 1.1 out of 10 stars after 28,173 votes! I also saw that Arnold Schwarzenegger has been offered a role for an upcoming Predator movie!

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!” Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

up next: Review for The Adjustment Bureau and “Time to Vote Tuesday” (be sure to vote on last week’s poll HERE)

Information gathered from numerous sources including, but not limited to:,,,,, and

  1. Hi T, I’m curious what you think of ‘Bureau’ I got my review up for today.

I have a feeling I’d thoroughly enjoy Rango, so not really surprised it was #1, just didn’t think the box office receipt would be that high.

I have zero interest in GI Joe, glad I skipped it in the theater when my friends went to see it w/ my husband in tow. Even if Gerry Butler had a cameo I still might skip that one.

Wow, lucky Stewart to be playing w/ Viggo! I certainly hope the script have more to do for her than just moping around like in Twilight!

    • Adjustment Bureau review will be posted later today! I will be sure to check out yours as well. It’s my day off…so that means catching up on everyone’s pages!

      You will LOVE Rango!

Wow! Even a GB cameo wouldn’t merit a ticket for you to GI Joe2 huh? 🙂 hahaha. I am hoping that Viggo and Charlize can help Stewart’s acting! Not quite sure how she landed that!

  2. Sweet poster for Conan! Hope it’s going to be a smash hit at the box office ahah.

They eliminated all the female characters in GI Joe 2. Now, there is absolutely zero reason to watch it.

  3. Jon Chu’s resume doesn’t seem all that impressive to me. And i was indifferent to Kristen Stewart till i saw The Runaways. I’m not sure what the new COnan can do that the original didn’t, but maybe it will surprise me.

Btw i posted a new blog entry. It has 2 trailers(I decided to follow your advice on that)
