I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!
This Just In!!…
#1- “The Weekend Winner.” Well, the box office has been in quite a slump since 2011 began. But that slump appears to be no more. Quite the kickstart for the beginning of the summer blockbusters! Fast Five revved up its engines showing off its great cinematic might! Did you go check it out? or were you a victim of missing out due to sold out theaters like I was? Fast Five dominated the box office.
Here are the weekend’s results:
- Fast Five ~$86.1 million (NEW RELEASE)
- Rio ~$14.8 million
- Madea’s Big Happy Family ~$9.9 million
- Water for Elephants ~$9.3 million
- Prom ~$4.7 million (NEW RELEASE)
- Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil ~$4.1 million (NEW RELEASE)
- Soul Surfer ~$3.4 million
- Insidious ~$2.7 million
- Hop ~$2.6 million
- Source Code ~$2.5 million
18. Dylan Dog: Dead of Night ~$755,000 (NEW RELEASE)
Congrats to Fast Five! Vin and the crew accomplished a great feat! Over $80 million on a debut weekend! The highest of 2011 so far and the highest April debut ever!!! I hope to see it soon for myself. To all of those still hoping to watch it, I have been informed to stay after the credits roll for a nice surprise! ….you’ve been told!
#2- “Amazing Spiderman Set Photos!” Oscorp will apparently play a part in The Amazing Spiderman! The company owned by Peter Parker’s nemesis, Norman Osborne, will have a presence in the film according to the recent batch of photos to hit the web. No news on anyone being cast as Norman, but time may see that change. Also check out a few of these picks that show Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. The Amazing Spiderman releases on July 3, 2012 and is currently filming. Photos are courtesy www.geektyrant.com and www.justjared.buzznet.com.
#3- “Django!” No, I didn’t sneeze! Django Unchained is actually the name of director Quentin Tarantino’s newest upcoming western. The following plot information is from a source over at IndieWire:
Django is a freed slave, who, under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (played by Christopher Waltz the evil Nazi officer in Inglorious Basterds) becomes a bad-a$$ bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner. And that doesn’t even half begin to cover it! This film deals with racism as I’ve rarely seen it handled in a Hollywood film. While it’s 100 percent pure popcorn and revenge flick, it is pure genius in the way it takes on the evil slave owning south. Think of what he did with the Nazis in Inglorious and you’ll get a sense of what he’s doing with slave owners and slave overseers in this one.”
Check out THIS link to see a follow up story from IndieWire in regards to the veracity of this plot and casting ideas! All I know is Tarantino has got some solid performing films under his belt and handling controversy is not new to him. Seems like Tarantino fans will be flocking to this one soon! What are your thoughts? Share if you Dare!!
#4- “Zorro: Reborn and Re-imaged!” According to the LA Times, there is a script already written that places the masked avenger in a post-apocalyptic world as a seeker of revenge. Zorro will not base his activities in the familiar landscape of California and Mexico and will not be looking for justice as much as he will be looking for revenge. Fox is currently working with those involved in the project to bring another vision of Zorro to the screen.
No actor currently is chosen, but director Rpin Suwannath, known for his visualization work in films such as Matrix, X-Men, and Chronicles of Narnia movies, is hoping to take Zorro in another direction from the Antonio Banderas depiction. Check out the fun picture below from www.reelzchannel.com and their depiction of what Suwannath and Fox’s Zorro might look like! 🙂
#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” The Green Hornet! Did you catch Seth Rogan running around as the masked gun-toting superhero while it was in theaters?! If not, you can rent, stream, and/or own his debut as the Green Hornet this week!
Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”
Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!
up next: “Time to Vote Tuesday!” Don’t forget to vote on last week’s poll, it closes tonite!
