Movie News Monday for June 13, 2011!

June 13, 2011

Today is Monday and that means: “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”) is here!

What is ‘MNM’ all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.” Anyone go see the new summer release: Judy Moody and the NOT Summer Bummer?? Anyone??…didn’t think so. While Judy Moody was one of the new releases this past weekend, most people decided to go enjoy J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 instead. (Me too!!). According to boxofficemojo, Super 8 stomped its way to the top of the box office, even keeping the X-Men at bay! Which of the movies did YOU see this weekend?

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, June 10-Sun, June 12:

  1. Super 8 ~$37 million (NEW RELEASE)
  2. X-Men: First Class ~$25 million
  3. The Hangover Part II ~$18.5 million
  4. Kung Fu Panda 2 ~$16.6 million
  5. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ~$10.8 million
  6. Bridesmaids ~$10.1 million
  7. Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer ~$6.3 million (NEW RELEASE)
  8. Midnight in Paris ~$6.1 million
  9. Thor ~$2.4 million
  10. Fast Five ~$1.7 million

Congrats to Super 8! Click HERE to check out the review.

#2- ”Don’t Jinx it!” In case you missed the news a few months back, the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is set to release in August of 2012 with the title G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes. One of the most striking pieces of news a while back was that only Lee Byung-hun (Storm Shadow), Ray Park (Snake Eyes) and Channing Tatum (Duke) would be returning in the sequel. None of the rest of the cast to return!

Well, who else will be joining the crew in Director Jon Chu’s sequel? Rumor has it that Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) is in talks to play Roadblock. Not only is Roadblock looking to be in the movie in the form of a Rock, but Jinx is in talks to appear! Jinx, the ninja member of the team and Storm Shadow’s cousin, remained absent from the first film. French actress Elodie Yung is in talks to play the part of Jinx. So far, none of her movies have been American made. She starred in the French film District 13: Ultimatum. Her American film debut will be seen in David Fincher’s edition of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. She seems to be a fresh great addition for a sequel that will be in need of all the help it can get to overcome the dismal reception of the first one.

#3- “Shia Shies Away” Shia LaBeouf recently announced that after Transformers 3 he would not return to the Transformers franchise. Some people who wish Transformers focused on more of the robots than the humans undoubtedly rejoiced upon hearing the news. A few questions obviously stem from this revelation:

  1. Is there already a plan for a 4th one? (highly unlikely at this point)
  2. Is anyone even bothered by Shia’s departure? (also highly unlikely)
  3. Will Shia say the same thing about Indiana Jones franchise?

Click HERE to watch the vid of Shia’s interview, and what else he had to say about Transformers 3! Seems very promising! Transformers: Dark of the Moon releases on June 29, 2012 in theaters!

#4- “Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks team up again!!” First was Charlie Wilson’s War, and now Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts pair up for a fun, slightly romantic, real life film entitled Larry Crowne. I could spend time writing a synopsis for you to read, or…I could just show you the newest released trailer that tells the story in a fun way!

Larry Crowne looks fun and I, for one, am looking forward to this feel-good movie! How about you? Larry Crowne releases on July 1.

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” Battle: Los Angeles, starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, and a host of alien invaders! Follow a unit of U.S. Marines as the fight to defend Los Angeles from destruction and domination. A fun alien invasion movie: Halo on the big screen! 🙂 Click the picture below for the review.

*Also releasing this week: Red Riding Hood. From the director of Twilight, here comes the newest retelling of the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood! Starring Amanda Seyfried and Gary Oldman. Rather cliche and predictable, but perhaps worth a view to you. Check out the review by clicking the picture below!

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

That’s a pretty low number for Super 8, but when I saw it the theater wasn’t super packed.

Good for Shia to jump off the Transformers franchise. I think he’s talented, better use it elsewhere.

True but it still was much better than Paramount expected. It’s an original story with no star power and peculiar marketing (not showing the creature).

It’s unfortunate for Super 8 too! I did really enjoy it! I might actually go see it again!
