Movie News Monday for July 11, 2011!

It’s MONDAY!! 🙂 Of course, here, that always means it’s “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)!

(Apologies for the lack of posts/reviews this past week. Yours Truly has been super busy! But…I’m back, with a fresh week and starting it off right with MNM! Here we go!!)

What is ‘MNM’ all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.” This past weekend, Transformers: Dark of the Moon maintained it’s reign of the theaters as bad bosses and zoo animals fought to claim the spot! Horrible Bosses and Zookeeper, took the runner-up spots over the likes of Cars 2 (which placed 4th) and Bad Teacher (which just didn’t make the grade) this past weekend!

Which of the movies did YOU see this weekend?

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, July 8-Sun, July 10:

  1. Transformers: Dark of the Moon ~$47 million
  2. Horrible Bosses ~$28 million (NEW RELEASE)
  3. Zookeeper ~$21 million (NEW RELEASE)
  4. Cars 2 ~$15 million
  5. Bad Teacher ~$9 million
  6. Larry Crowne ~$6.3 million
  7. Super 8 ~$4.8 million
  8. Monte Carlo ~$3.8 million
  9. Green Lantern ~$3.1 million
  10. Mr. Popper’s Penguins ~$2.8 million

Congrats to Michael Bay, Optimus Prime, and crew once again! Transformers: Dark of the Moon is now the highest grossing film of 2011 with a 12-day total of $261 million, passing The Hangover Part II.

#2- “Casting Call” Well, this past week a few movies announced some additions to their cast! Check out who’s doing what?

G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes: Ray Stevenson (Volstagg in Thor , Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone) officially signed up for the film to star as the villain, Firefly! Firefly is part of the Cobra terrorist group. His specialty: a ninja master with expertise in the areas of sabotage and explosives!

Man of Steel: director Zack Snyder’s Superman film keeps growing in terms of impressive talent. Add to the mix now, Harry Lennix. Lennix (Commander Lock in The Matrix sequels) has been cast as military officer General Swanwick.

Bond 23: With a release date of November 2012 and a cast that already includes Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, and Ralph Fiennes, welcome Naomie Harris and Javier Bardem to the cast of the upcoming Bond flick. Bardem (No Country for Old Men , Biutiful) and Harris (Pirates of the Caribbean 3/4 , 28 Days Later) have been rumored to play the parts of a villain (Bardem) and Moneypenny (Harris). We shall see.

    • Me too Ian! I must say that I’m glad for some of the other “preturns” to the series, in that Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis, and more are back to working as Tolkein’s great characters! I will be great!! Did you scoop up the Blu-ray special extended edition of LOTR yet?

  1. Good stuff Scarlet. I apologize for not commenting much recently, I thought I was following you but i’m never getting updates when you post anything. Anyways, the look of the dwarves is nice, and I hope the new Sherlock Holmes is good!

    • Matt!! How have you been? No apology necessary my friend! I, like most, can completely understand computer mix ups and being super busy as well. Thanks for stopping back by. I had lost the link I had saved for your page and am glad you resurfaced for me to follow! So it’s mutual!!

  2. Oooh Rango is out on dvd already, too bad I have to wait 2 wks before Netflix gets it. And yeah, excited for The Hobbit for sure! I’m curious what Thorin would look like 🙂

    • already Rango hits stores. I was telling Castor to check out using CinemaNow. New releases are available to stream right away on a pay as you go method. I like it. Of course, you can get it at your local Best Buy or online! 🙂

  3. The Conan posters look pretty awesome IMO. The Sherlock Holmes one are very safe and blah. Looking forward to see Rango and even The Lincoln Lawyer on DVD but again, probably will have to wait a whole extra month for Netflix to get them…

  4. Transformers is already out? 😦 I have no luck of ever seeing it in Cinema… I love to see Conan in Cinema but most likely will never happen. F@ck my government!!!

Not interested at all in seeing Sherlock.

Hope things will be back to normal in 2012, i hate to miss The Hobbits
