The Weekend Wrap 7.16.11

July 16, 2011

Welcome to another exciting edition full of quick news for the weekend. This is your “Weekend Wrap!” This segment will give you just a few quick bullet points of news that will, hopefully, wrap up a few stories/rumors/questions/photos/and trailers that you may or may not have seen and heard. Okay, here we go!

New trailers:

1. The Thing prequel hits theaters soon, and here is the new amazing trailer for it! Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton, The Thing releases on October 14th after being pushed back from April 29, 2011. What do you think of the movie? I think the trailer is pretty amazing!

2. John Carter. Here’s the synopsis for this one, courtesy imdb.

Civil War vet John Carter is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior..

Watch the trailer. Tell me what you think. Here’s Disney’s John Carter.

3. Hugo. From director Martin Scorsese (The Departed) comes an adventurous tale of intertwining spectacular proportions.

Set in Paris in the 1930’s and starring Chloe Moretz (Let Me In), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Ben Kingsley (Ghandi), Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat), Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas), and many more, Hugo releases on November 23, 2011.

New Casting Info:

1. Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings) will play as the King in Tarsem Singh’s Snow White film which will star Lily Collins (Snow White), Armie Hammer (Prince Andrew), Julia Roberts (Evil Queen), and several others. Currently filming in Montreal. The film from Relativity Media has a release date of March 16, 2012.

2. Russell Brand is currently being rumored as a target for Johnny Depp to acquire to accompany him on the high seas for a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film. yes, (sigh), aNOTHER Pirates film. Brand will actually seal the deal for me as the final reason to NOT see the yet-to-be-confirmed fifth installment.

3. Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises), according to Vulture, may be nearing a deal with director David Yates (Harry Potter) to star in his project entitled Cicero which is an upcoming origin story based on the infamous Chicago gangster Al Capone. Whether or not Hardy will play Capone himself is still at question, but the project is underway based on a script written back in the 70’s.

I really like the Hugo trailer. Seems like it’s going to be a great family film. Not sure about John Carter but visually, it looks really cool. As for the Thing, it looks really run-of-the-mill.

John Carter looks good though I’m not sure what the story is about. Spiderman’s suit looks awesome. I’m looking forward to the new Muskateers, should be good.
