Movie News Monday for July 18, 2011!

Welcome to your regular weekly installment of “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)!

Can you believe that July is already halfway gone?! Wow! Summer 2011 is almost past. But never fear…“MNM” isn’t going anywere! 🙂

What is ‘MNM’ all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.” How many of you went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 this past weekend? I must confess that I was not able to make it yet, but thousands of people did. And, as expected, HP made it to the top of the Box Office this weekend, breaking many records along the way. Check it out.

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, July 15-Sun, July 17:

  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ~$168.5 million (NEW RELEASE)
  2. Transformers: Dark of the Moon ~$21.3 million
  3. Horrible Bosses ~$17.6 million
  4. Zookeeper ~$12.3 million
  5. Cars 2 ~$8.3 million
  6. Winnie the Pooh ~$8 million (NEW RELEASE)
  7. Bad Teacher ~$5.2 million
  8. Larry Crowne ~$2.6 million
  9. Super 8 ~$1.9 million
  10. Midnight in Paris ~$1.89 million

After 2 weeks on top, the Transformers were toppled by the wizardry of Warner Bros! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 completely crushed the box office with the highest grossing opening weekend EVER (passing The Dark Knight which earned $158.4 million on it’s opening weekend)! It also beat The Deathly Hallows part 1 by $40 million….however, The Deathly Hallows part 2 is in 3D causing ticket prices to be higher. hmmmm. Nevertheless, congrats to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2! On opening day it earned $92.1 million (another record!), Wow!

It will be interesting to see Captain America: The First Avenger go up against Harry Potter this weekend, but I have a feeling that Cap will win that battle! How about you? Any takers?

#2- “Judgment Day Cometh” Remember Sylvester Stallone as Judge Dredd? In case you had forgotten, or just didn’t know to begin with, they are doing a different Judge Dredd movie starring Karl Urban instead of Sly. A few months back I posted a pic of him and the motorcycle being used. (click HERE). Well, check out a few other pics of Urban as the futuristic justice dealer!

Dredd is currently filming and is set for a release in late 2011 (UK) and sometime in 2012 for the rest of the world! Keep a lookout for it!

#3- “A Casting Rumor is BOURNE!” A little play on words as a big name is in talks to take on the role of the villain in the new Bourne film entitled Bourne Legacy. Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker) will be the main character in the film (not as Jason Bourne, and, No, Matt Damon will not be in the film), but Ed Norton is reportedly in talks to join the project as the main villain. What do you think? No Hulk, so Norton moves on to Bourne! Not bad!

Filming for Bourne Legacy is set to begin soon. The movie itself has an August 2012 release date!

#4- “Chicks Dig the Car!” The Dark Knight Rises trailer, which premiered at showings for Harry Potter, still has not officially been released online! There are, of course, bootleg copies that can be viewed, but the masses are still waiting for it to officially appear online! It looks real good! To tide you over, take a look at something that is NOT in the trailer! Batman’s new batmobile! If you remember from The Dark Knight, the tumbler got destroyed giving us a great look at the Bat-bike! Well, check out Batman’s newest ride.

It looks the same, only sleeker and a bit more compact! I’m wondering if we’ll see the Bat-bike again! Can’t wait for The Dark Knight Rises to release next summer.

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week pick up the following film on Blu-ray to add to your collection. To read my review on the title, click on the respective picture!

Limitless -Bradley Cooper stars as Eddie Morra in this thriller about the possibilities and perils of using an experimental drug that enables usage of all of his brain! Check out the review for this fun film!

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!
