Movie News Monday for November 7, 2011!

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)!! 🙂 What is ‘MNM’all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

There is a TON of news for you today!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.”  This past weekend the #1 spot in the box office was up for grabs by a few new releases, but it was a repeat offender that scratched and clawed his way to the top once again (with only $1 million less than last weekend I might add)!! Wow! Too bad for Tower Heist which just didn’t have enough appeal to steal the #1 spot.

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, Nov 4-Sun, Nov 6:

  1. Puss in Boots ~$33 million
  2. Tower Heist ~$25 million (NEW RELEASE)
  3. A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas ~$13 million (NEW RELEASE)
  4. Paranormal Activity 3 ~$8.5 million
  5. In Time ~$7.7 million
  6. Footloose ~$4.5 million
  7. Real Steel ~$3.4 million
  8. The Rum Diary ~$2.9 million
  9. The Ides of March ~$2 million
  10. Moneyball ~$1.9 million

Congratulations once again to Puss in Boots

#2- “Upcoming Productions!!” In case you didn’t hear the news this past week, several movies are on their way to a local theater near you in a year…or two…or three. Check out some of the latest production updates:

A) Jennifer Lopez is reported to be working with Walden Media to produce (and possibly star in) a live-action film of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?! Here is the logline that surfaced this past week for the project:

“when the ACME agency’s greatest detective Carmen Sandiego becomes the world’s greatest thief, it’s up to her former partner to follow her clues and track her down. Their cat and mouse game leads the partner to confront a greater mystery: is Carmen really a thief or a hero?”

The hope is to make it a mix between The Thomas Crown Affair and National Treasure. I just hope that it is good!

B) Dirty Dancing remake has been scheduled to release on July 26, 2013 and will be directed by the dance choreographer of the original, Kenny Ortega.

C) Marvel’s X-Men: First Class has finally received confirmation of a sequel.

D) Director J.J. Abrams wants Benicio del Toro to star as a villain in the upcoming anticipated sequel for Star Trek (which will NOT be titled, Star Trek 2).

#3- “21 Jump Street trailer!” Yes, in case you missed the news earlier this year, there is another 21 Jump Street movie releasing soon. And it stars none other than my favorite actor, Channing Tatum. (SARCASM, folks!!)

Earlier last week a horrendously pointless redband trailer launched that was riddled with profanity. Here is the toned down, but still just as ridiculous, greenband trailer. Oh, and yes, Johnny Depp is in the movie (not the trailer, but the movie).

Look for it on March 16, 2012

#4- “Some First Looks!” Over the past week, some photos have arrived providing a few first looks at a few different movies. Check out the pictures below from the sets of their respective upcoming films. (Click any picture to enlarge it).

A) 007’s Skyfall: See Daniel Craig as MI-6 special agent James Bond from the set of the newly titled upcoming Bond film that just began filming last week.

B) Great Expectations: See Helena Bonham Carter as Ms Havisham on the set of the upcoming Lionsgate UK film based on the Charles Dickens novel of the same name.

C) Hyde Park on Hudson: See Bill Murray as U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the upcoming biopic film.

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week, look for the following films on Blu-ray to possibly add to your collection:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2– The completion of the epic saga releases on Blu-ray! For those in the U.S., be sure to scoop it up before the end of 2011, at which point in time Warner Bros will be pulling all copies of all Harry Potter films from retail distribution.

Also releasing: The Change-Up, 13, and Atlas Shrugged Part 1

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

  1. You do do a very thorough job, T! 😀

I can’t say I’m that interested by the JLo flick or Dirty Dancing – why does it need to be remade?! – but the X-Men: First Class and Star Trek sequels are interesting. I wonder who will feature in the X-Men sequel?

While I think ‘Skyfall’ sounds like a cocktail, it is great to have more details and some first pics from the set. Bonham Carter looks wonderful as Ms Havisham, too. She really looks the part!

    • why thank you Claire! My appreciated.

I tend to agree with you on the title “Skyfall” but I hope the movie is better than Quantum of Solace. I think it will be!

      and the Dirty Dancing remake….bleah.

  2. Woo hoo, First Class sequel!! I hope Fassbender & McAvoy sign up again, it won’t be the same without them, surely.

That J-Lo project sounds interesting, she’d make a good action heroine I suppose. Hey, can’t leave all that to Angelina, right?
