Movie News Monday for November 21, 2011!

November 21, 2011

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)!! 🙂 What is ‘MNM’all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.”  This past weekend the #1 spot in the box office was pretty much guaranteed to one of the 3 new releases, but just HOW much would Twilight make over the weekend? And would Happy Feet Two get anywhere close to that?! HA! The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (part 1) completely demolished the box office with its midnight release earnings alone!

~$30.25M earned on the midnight release! Wow! This round of Twilight had the 2nd highest weekend opening debut of the franchise (beat only by 2009’s New Moon which opened with $142.7M)!

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, Nov 18-Sun, Nov 20:

  1. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (part 1) ~$139.5M
  2. Happy Feet Two ~$22M
  3. Immortals ~$12.2M
  4. Jack and Jill ~$12M
  5. Puss in Boots ~$10.7M
  6. Tower Heist ~$7M
  7. J. Edgar ~$5.9M
  8. A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas ~$2.9M
  9. In Time ~$1.7M
  10. The Descendants ~$1.2M

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (part 1) had the 5th largest cinematic opening of all time behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (part 2), The Dark Knight, Spiderman 3, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon!

Congratulations once again to Breaking Dawn.

#2- “Rampage To Stir Up A Ruckus in Hollywood?!!” Oh man! Do you remember the old 8-bit Nintendo game Rampage?! Countless hours could be spent terrorizing neighborhoods as a monster and eating the people who tried to escape on foot! haha.

Well, it looks as if it may be made into a feature film! Now, I’m all for fun and I love videogames, but it is rare when a great videogame is made into a great movie. I’m not sure what type of storyline it will contain, but this could still be some mindless addictive fun like the game was!

According to THR:

New Line Cinema has put into development an adaptation of the classic 1980s video game featuring apes and monsters destroying cities.

John Rickard, who has acted as a co-producer on a wide range of New Line movies from A Nightmare on Elm Street and Final Destination to Horrible Bosses and next year’s tentpole Jack the Giant Killer, will produce and is meeting with writers to develop a story for the project.

Who’s up for some fun?! Look out, King Kong and Godzilla movies! You got some competition! 😀

#3- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea about to surface!” Director David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en, The Social Network) apparently has never worked with the same writer twice! But it looks like that is about to change as it is being reported that Andrew Kevin Walker (Writer of 1995’s Se7en) has agreed to work on the script for Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of the classic Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!

According to CinemaBlend, Fincher’s project “will focus more on the three central characters: Captain Nemo, French marine biologist Professor Pierre Aronnax, and master harpoonist Ned Landwill.”

I had no idea that another film based on the classic novel was about to surface! What are your initial thoughts?

#4- “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows fun featurette!” Getting ready for the fun releases of next month? Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol? The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked? The Adventures of Tintin? or War Horse perhaps? Well, also releasing next month in theaters is Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Check out this latest featurette showing a bit more of what to expect from Director Guy Ritchie’s anticipated sequel starring Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Jared Harris, and more!!

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows releases in theaters on December 16, 2011.

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week, look for the following films on Blu-ray to possibly add to your collection:

Super 8– Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams team up to tell a fantastic tale of a creature of unknown origin whose mysterious appearance in a small town community causes panic and mayhem, along with companionship, adventure, and excitement. One of my favorite movies of the summer! Check out the review by clicking the picture!

Also releasing: Conan the Barbarian, Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, and The Devil’s Double (Click each movie title for either a review or trailer for the film)

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

Wow, I wasn’t too surprised to see that Happy Feet 2 didn’t do as well as Twilight. Did the Scarlet Sp1der get the chance to watch this Twilight? Something tells me.. no! ha!

A movie about Rampage? That’s like the best of both worlds having your favorite video game made into a movie! Cannot wait for the releasess of Sherlock Holmes and Super 8.

Is there a movie that you wuold highly recommend getting as soon as it comes out Scarlet Sp1der?
    Great MNM by the way!

Super 8 should be making it’s way to me via mail sometime today. I’m looking forward to seeing it again as well. With the Criterion sale over, Amazon has control of my wallet this week. When will the movie buying end?

No surprise Breaking Dawn will take box office crown, I’m just glad there’s only one more of Twilight and it’ll all be over!!

Sherlock Holmes 2 does look like fun, but I know there’ll be tons of great flicks in December, so lots of competition 🙂

Out of these goodies I am most excited about the news about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea – I love that story! It’s intriguing that David Fincher is the man who will take the helm, too. I’ll definitely start following this story, see what updates we get!

    Thanks, T 😀
