Mini-Review for The Muppets

November 30, 2011

The Muppets

  • Starring: Everybody!! Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper
  • Directed by: James Bobin
  • Synopsis: On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary(Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10-million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit the Frog reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways.
  • Trailer:

The Muppets are back! And, boy, what a welcomed sight for sore eyes! An exciting journey penned by Jason Segel (screenplay) that brings back some of the heartwarming nostalgia and good feelings that the Muppets films of old always did. Who doesn’t like Kermit the Frog and gang?! Show me someone who doesn’t and I will show you a soul-less 2nd cousin of a zombie on AMC’s “The Walking Dead”! haha! 😀

I was curious if this film would commit fully to the style of The Muppets or if it would try some new-fangled way of mixing old and new and possibly ruin the comeback chances of my childhood favorites. I am glad to report that the former was the case. Such a delightful refreshing style, like that of old, that entertains, tells an uplifting story, and shares some songs (old and new) with the audience.

The story is as believable as they come for a muppets film. Of course, in real life, no one would ever expect Jason Segel’s actual brother to be a muppet! But, oh what fun this movie is with its slightly cheesy plots, villains, songs, and acting…it all works so well to build the incredibly amazing film that appeals to kids of all ages! And, in classic Muppets style, there is nothing short of a “Plethora” of Hollywood star cameos and appearances in this film! Amy Adams and Jason Segel did so well being the main actors interacting with the muppets! The great cameos ranged from the likes of Mickey Rooney and Whoopi Goldberg, to Jack Black, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, and many more!

The one thing I would say that takes some getting used to is some of the new voices for the characters. While very close, there were times that the voices were distinctly not at all like the originals (and other times when they were spot on). But that’s okay. All in all, a very enjoyable film for those who loved the muppets of old, and those that have yet to discover them! Kermit, Ms. Piggy, Gonzo, Rowlf, The Swedish Chef, Sweetums, and many more come back “Together Again”, and the only question I have is What took them so long?

Go see it! It is a must-see! Without a doubt! An amazing “Muppet Mahna-Mahna!!”

Thanks for reading!

Enjoy if you wish…or don’t enjoy! Happy Watching!

“Who doesn’t like Kermit the Frog and the gang?!” My sentiments exactly. Totally un-American or possibly inhuman.

Agreed on the voices, too. It took a bit to get adjusted. Good thoughts!

This movie was one of the greatest joys I’ve experienced in the theater this year. I’ll probably do a repeat viewing sometime in the near future. Glad to see you share the same thoughts I do about this great film.

hahahaha. Ah! I know that you and your family will enjoy it very much. I tell you what, give me The Avengers release date that you all have earlier than I do over here and I will talk to Jason Segel and Kermit for you and send you an exclusive copy of The Muppets for in-home viewing!

I’m glad you enjoyed this film, T! I really cannot wait to see it though, sadly, it’s not out in the UK until February 😦

I grew up watching Sesame Street and The Muppets so I’m very happy that Kermit and co are back on the big screen!

as I was telling Scott, if you can make sure that The Avengers releases here in my city at the same time as it does for you in the UK (instead of having to wait for May 4), then I will talk to Kermit and the gang for you and make sure you can get a private screening early of The Muppets! 🙂 Kermit and I go way back!…I mean, at least 29 years!
