Movie News Monday for July 23, 2012

July 23, 2012

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)!! What is ‘MNM’all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.”  This past weekend the excitement of the release of The Dark Knight Rises was shrouded with the horrific event in Aurora, Colorado. Several filmmakers, actors, politicians, and sympathizers continue to provide the greatest support to those affected by this tragedy. In an effort to keep all attention on what is important (the victims and their families) and not on the $$$, Warner Bros. refused to release the box office earnings of The Dark Knight Rises over the weekend. Taking a moment of silence, the weekend remained silent in terms of money earned. There is no report for you at this time. Box office earnings will be available later today once they are released.

Please feel free to visit www.boxofficemojo.com for the July 20-July 22 weekend box office earnings once they officially post later today.

Thank you, Warner Bros., Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, and all others who show respect by placing respect for this situation above the dollar. My prayers continue to go forth for those affected by the events in Colorado.

Did YOU see The Dark Knight Rises this weekend?

#2- “Mike Epps is Hungover again??!” You may recall Mike Epps role as “Black Doug” in 2009’s successful comedy The Hangover. It may have also surprised you to see that he was not a part of the wolf pack’s adventure in the second installment. Well, it looks as if the franchise may try to get back to its roots (which were seemingly lost in the bad sequel) and one of the ways they may be doing that is by including Mike Epps in the third film.

Currently, it appears that Mike Epps is indeed in negotiations to reprise his role in this upcoming sequel along with returning cast members, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, and, yes, Ken Jeong. Set to take place in Tijuana, The Hangover Part III is set to release in theaters on May 24, 2013…at the beginning of “wedding season.”

Gonna be a crazy turn of events to be sure.

What are your thoughts? Are you ready for more Hangover?

#3- Thor vs. the Robots.” No, this isn’t another Marvel spin-off film in the making. Director Steven Spielberg has been working on a film entitled Robopocalypse (which I reported on here).

Based on a book, here is the synopsis for the tale courtesy RandomHouse:

Not far into our future, the dazzling technology that runs our world turns against us. Controlled by a childlike — yet massively powerful — artificial intelligence known as Archos, the global network of machines on which our world has grown dependent suddenly becomes an implacable, deadly foe. At Zero Hour — the moment the robots attack — the human race is almost annihilated, but as its scattered remnants regroup, humanity for the first time unites in a determined effort to fight back. This is the oral history of that conflict, told by an international cast of survivors who experienced this long and bloody confrontation with the machines. Brilliantly conceived and amazingly detailed,Robopocalypse is an action-packed epic with chilling implications about the real technology that surrounds us.

It’s the robots’ world, we just live in it…for now.

It is for this movie, that Steven Spielberg wants to employ the help of one Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Talk about Eagle Eye and I, Robot to the MAX!!  Robopocalypse will be released on April 25, 2014. With such films releasing starring the hulky Hemsworth, it seems like Chris’ success may just continue to soar to even bigger heights!

What are your thoughts? Are you interested in Robopacalypse?

#4- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week, look for the following films on Blu-ray to possibly add to your collection:

Silent House– This horror film is not one that I recommend myself (I was bored), but it is the only big blu-ray release this week. Starring Elizabeth Olsen, this horror focuses on a young woman and her bout of terror in house without contact to the outside world. It’s not the greatest, but if you just HAVE to watch a new movie this week, then…nope, can’t even recommend you see this. Just go to the theater!

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

Chris Hemsworth? He’s a good actor, but… OK, I haven’t yet read Robopocalypse, but a large part of the publicity for the book has been that it’s centered around the Osage Reservation (my tribe). Chris Hemsworth is, rather visibly, not an Indian. So I can only hope that there are (as there logically would be) some roles for white people in the book, and therefore the movie, and that Hemsworth is up for one of those roles. Because if he’s cast as one of the characters who was an Indian in the novel, it would be like casting him as T’Challa in Black Panther.

You bring up a very good point Morgan, and I agree with you. Wanna bet that Spielberg is waiting to make his decision until he sees Depp in The Lone Ranger. 😉

I’m hoping Hemsworth is playing some character who is supposed to be white. I’m sure there probably are some. I’ve got to get my hands on that book… I’ve been wanting to read it anyway, since sci-fi is up my alley after all, and hey, it is my tribe.

What a tragic event there in Aurora… I was quite dumbfounded that day when I found out T. Yes, we ought to continue to pray for the victims and their families. I think that’s great that WB + Nolan & Co. are sensitive about the box office numbers and also canceling the premieres because of this. I did see the movie and my review is now up.

I have no clue what Robopocalypse is about but I’m mildly interested in seeing it w/ Hemsworth in it 🙂

Keep an eye on Robopocalypse. I think it’s going to be pretty neat. As long as they do it well. It’s Spielberg…so, that should be great.
