Movie News Monday for October 8, 2012

October 8, 2012

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Movie News Monday!” (“MNM!”)!!

What is ‘MNM’all about?

In case this is your first time here, “Movie News Monday!” (MNM) is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! I’ve collected info, rumors, etc from all over just for you to keep you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!

This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.”  This past weekend the #1 spot in the box office arena went to Liam Neeson as he took back is place at #1. Interestingly enough though, Adam Sandler’s movie still kept top honors as Hotel Transylvania took a distant 2nd! Out of the 2 wide new releases, however, it was Frankenweenie with the hardest time in the box office. Which is a shame, because Frankenweenie is GREAT.

Other things of note this weekend: Pitch Perfect moved up 3 spots last weekend from #6 to #3, along with The Perks of Being a Wallflower which moved from #13 to #11.

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, Oct 5 -Sun, Oct 7:

  1. Taken 2 ~$50M
  2. Hotel Transylvania ~$26.3M
  3. Pitch Perfect ~$14.7M
  4. Looper ~$12.2M
  5. Frankenweenie ~$11.5M
  6. End of Watch ~$4M
  7. Trouble With The Curve ~$3.87M
  8. House At the End Of The Street ~$3.69M
  9. The Master ~$1.8M
  10. Finding Nemo 3D ~$1.6M

Congrats to Taken 2

What did YOU watch this weekend?

#2-Skyfall/Adele Trailer.” A new trailer for 007’s Skyfall has hit the web that features the music of title track singer, Adele. Check it out:

Oh, so, in case you didn’t know…Yes, Adele performs the Skyfall theme song and it sounds so fantastic. Like what you heard? Want to hear more? I know you do! Click HERE.

Skyfall synopsis: Daniel Craig is back as James Bond 007 in Skyfall, the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time.  In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her.  As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.  The film also stars Berenice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes.

Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCroy, Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes, Bérénice Marlohe, and Javier Bardem releases on November 9.

What do you think of the title track?

#3- “4 Beautiful Hobbit banners revealed.” The December release that is highly anticipated has released 4 new banners in preparation for The Hobbit‘s release. Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan, Cate Blanchett, Evangeline Lilly, Elijah Wood, and so many more from the Lord of the Rings series, Peter Jackson is about to unleash the beautiful of the shire upon us once again.

Take a look at these new banners. (Click image to enlarge):

Pretty neat. I like them and cannot wait for December 14.

What do you think of the banners? Are you as excited for The Hobbit as I am?

#4- “Mody Dick goes to space?” Did you know a space adventure based on the tale of Moby Dick is in talks? Helmed by the director of the serious-toned We Need To Talk About Kevin? According to THR, read the following report:

Scott Steindorff and his Scott Pictures banner have come aboard to produce and finance MobiusLynne Ramsay’s science fiction-oriented project inspired by Moby Dick. Ramsay and her We Need to Talk About Kevin co-writer Rory Kinnear are penning the script, which takes its cues from Herman Melville’s 1851 classic about a sea captain seeking revenge on a whale that destroyed his previous boat.

In Mobius, described as psychological action thriller set in deep space, a captain consumed by revenge takes his crew on a death mission fueled by his own ego and will to control an enigmatic alien.

Mobius will be produced and financed by Scott Pictures, with Ramsay producing alongside Steindorff, Peter FruchtmanDylan Russell and Scott LaStaiti of Scott Pictures.

Very interesting. I’m curious to see how this will play out and if the captain will be named Captain Ahab. Wouldn’t it be neat if they got another space exploring captain to be Captain Ahab…like, say, Patrick Stewart? Captain Picard could be Captain Ahab in space! I mean, he already was Captain Ahab on earth as well. Why not? 😉

Are you interested in this project at all? Thoughts?

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week, look for the following films on Blu-ray to possibly add to your collection:

Prometheus– Ridley Scott’s prequel of sorts to the Alien series. With a highly talented cast, this movie prompted even more questions. It’s beautiful cinematography and special effects are not to be discounted. Check out this amazing scifi adventure and have more questions answered in the special features. Read my Review: HERE.

Several other films also release this week. Check it out!

Also releasing: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Rock of Ages (Read my REVIEW), The Great Mouse Detective, and The Raven (Read my REVIEW).

Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”

Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!

Happy to hear a female getting to direct a big sci-fi film. I feel like that doesn’t happen anywhere near as often as it should
