Are you ready for your weekly update? Here it is!
This Just In!!…
#1- “The Weekend Winner.” This past weekend the #1 spot in the box office was up for grabs and the paranormal took it. With two wide new releases this weekend saw a pretty poor performance by all contenders. Even with $30M, Paranormal Activity 4 failed to meet the success of the previous two installments. Affleck’s Argo, however, remained at the #2 spot while Tyler Perry’s Alex Cross opened in fifth place.
Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, Oct 19 -Sun, Oct 21:
- Paranormal Activity 4 ~$30M
- Argo ~$16.6M
- Hotel Transylvania ~$13.5M
- Taken 2 ~$13.4M
- Alex Cross ~$11.8M
- Sinister ~$9M
- Here Comes the Boom ~$8.5M
- Pitch Perfect ~$7M
- Frankenweenie ~$4.4M
- Looper ~$4.2M

What did YOU watch this weekend?
#2- “So Comes the Dawn.” A new featurette for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn pt 2 has hit the web. I, for one, cannot wait for this series to be over (Although, that may not be the case as more news about how the series will continue in either spinoffs or a complete reboot keeps on coming up.) Fans of Jacob and Edward will have plenty to scream over in this upcoming finale.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn pt 2 stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattionson, Taylor Lautner and more in the continuing teenage geared drama of sparkling vampires and werewolves with abs. Check out the featurette:
Look for the continuation (and hopefully, the conclusion) of Bella’s tale in theaters on November 16, 2012.
Are you ready for the Dawn? Are you Team Edward? Jacob? or…team ALICE perhaps?
#3- “Spider-Man chooses Mary Jane” The Amazing Spider-Man sequel is shaping up right now and the involvement of certain characters has fans curious to know what director Marc Webb has in store for the webhead’s next film. Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) is currently in negotiations to star as Mary Jane in the yet-to-be-titled sequel.
Mary Jane’s role in the film is expected to be a minor one as the storyline will still focus on Gwen Stacy and head to her well-known unfortunate end. Golden Globe nominee Shailene Woodley seems to be a pretty solid choice for the role, especially after her performance in The Descendants with George Clooney. Currently she is also in negotiations to head the upcoming film adaptation of the Hunger Games-ish novel Divergent. (more on that HERE)
With Spider-Man adding more characters to the web of his story, look for more news as the expected casting of Harry Osborne may soon be announced. Several sources also highly speculate the inclusion of Electro as one of the villains in the next film. While that remains unconfirmed, it is interesting to see just what lies in store for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The next film is scheduled to release on May 2, 2014.
What do you think of the casting of Shailene Woodley?
#4- “Possibly Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad News.” Disney has announced that they will be adapting the classic children’s book Alexander and the Terrible Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day into a live action movie.
The classic book by Judith Viorst is summed up like this:
He could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. He went to sleep with gum in his mouth and woke up with gum in his hair. When he got out of bed, he tripped over his skateboard and by mistake dropped his sweater in the sink while the water was running. He could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.
It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Nothing at all was right. Everything went wrong, right down to lima beans for supper and kissing on TV.
What do you do on a day like that? Well, you may think about going to Australia. You may also be glad to find that some days are like that for other people too.
A terrible bad day indeed. Steve Carell is attached to this project to star as Alexander’s dad. The beloved book has already been adapted for screen in a 1990 animated musical that can actually been found on YouTube. After several weeks in deliberation between a couple studios Walt Disney Pictures will be bringing a new version to audiences.
I’m not overly excited by this news. But perhaps it will find a spot in the heart of new audiences.
What do you think about this news? Have you read the book?
#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week, look for the following films on Blu-ray to possibly add to your collection:
Abraham Linclon: Vampire Hunter– Tim Burton helps bring to the screen this historical fiction of President Lincoln as a death dealer to vampires who sought to wreak havoc upon our nation. I actually enjoyed this axe-swinging adaptation and encourage a viewing for a fun time. You can read my thoughts in my review HERE.
Several other films also release this week. Check it out!
Also releasing: Magic Mike, 30th Anniversary release of Blade Runner, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (my REVIEW), Madea’s Witness Protection, Take This Waltz and more.
Well, that’s it for this round of “Movie News Monday!”
Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!
