New Posters of the Week (2/15/13)

February 15, 2013

It is time once again to check out all of the…

As you know I love checking out and collecting movie posters! With teases of what to expect from the featured film, posters are one of my favorite parts of the whole cinematic experience. If you love movie posters like I do, then you are likely to enjoy the latest ones of the week!

Today we have a few new posters including one of several new character posters for the animated feature EPIC, a new character poster for Iron Man 3, and a sadly boring one for Jurassic Park 3D. A LOT of posters this week, and believe it or not, I actually narrowed it down! Here we go.

Take a look: (To view the fullscreen slideshow, click on any one of the posters below and scroll through with the arrow keys.)

Well, what do you think? Which ones are your favorites in this spotlight? I personally like the posters for The Blue Umbrella (Pixar’s new upcoming short), Would You Rather? (pretty telling), The Reluctant Fundamentalist (No idea what it’s about so far, but the color and style appeal to me) and Iron Man 3. I would’ve liked RED 2‘s poster more without the slogan on top. And I would’ve preferred if the poster for Oblivion wouldn’t have had Tom Cruise blocking a lot of the scenery behind him that I find to be most intriguing.

Check out this Olly Moss poster creatively made to tell the “Best Picture” winners for each of the Academy Awards for the past 84 ceremonies, with a spot for the upcoming 85th! Pretty ingenius! (Which movie do you think will win this year? and what should their “statue” for this poster look like?)poster0

Fair warning, this is going to be a looong comment. Too much stuff here for me to not talk about it. First off, the likes.

The Blue Umbrella, What Maisie Knew, Detour – great batch of minimalist posters, love the active swinging pose in Maisie, not something you see very often, and the road surface of Detour looks great, even if it’s probably been done before.

Would You Rather is just such a cringe-inducing image, but one you can’t ignore.

Passion has a great color scheme that pops and the framing works well too, and so does Dead Man Down.

Love the perspective and empty space in Dark Skies, and the Jack the Giant Slayer looks much better than the last one with the face close-up.

Jurassic Park is a great posing of the iconic image.

    Now for the dislikes.

Oblivion is pretty awful, don’t like the look on Cruise’s face, the angle, and like you said, there’s not enough background.

The Host looks like the poster for a medium budget sci-fi TV series, not a movie.

Kiss of the Damned is just flat out ugly.

hey Bubbawheat! Thanks for taking the time to comment on all of these. Some interesting posters. We see eye to eye on quite a few of them. I laughed at your comment about The Host.

Would You Rather just makes me cringe looking at it.

I, however, was a little let down by the JP poster. I don’t know why. Perhaps because it looks a little cartoonish/not real. It’s okay I guess, I just would’ve preferred it to be more like it was in the movie. (if that makes sense)

Kiss of the Damned poster is fantastic, love this one. I wish they did something better for Oblivion.
