This Just In!!…

#1- “The Weekend Winner.”  Last weekend, 3 wide new releases entered the box office arena to compete for the #1 spot. GI Joes, marriage counselors and aliens all joined the Top Ten during this weekend of dull new releases. The Joes did take the top spot while The Incredible Burt Wonderstone dropped like a rock with a 69% decrease from the previous weekend. (not that magical afterall).

Here are the weekend’s estimated results for Fri, Mar. 29 -Sun, Mar. 31:

  1. G.I. Joe: Retaliation ~$41.2M
  2. The Croods ~$26.5M
  3. Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor ~$22.3M
  4. Olympus Has Fallen ~$14M
  5. Oz the Great and Powerful ~$11.6M
  6. The Host ~$11M
  7. The Call ~$4.8M
  8. The Admission ~$3.3M
  9. Spring Breakers ~$2.8M
  10. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone ~$1.3M

*Actuals may vary as earnings are updated much later on Monday afternoons. For updates, visit boxofficemojo.com.

Congratulations to G.I. Joe: Retaliation (read my review/disappointment).

What did YOU watch this weekend?

#2- “1st Trailer for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Last week, I shared several new photo stills from the upcoming sequel to Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010) entitled Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. Well, the new trailer has now hit the web. Check it out:

Starring Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Stanley Tucci, Nathan Fillion and more, this August 16, 2013 release looks to carry the same tone as its predecessor. According to wikipedia, here is the unofficial synopsis:

An upcoming fantasy film and the sequel to the 2010 film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. It continues the adventures of Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) and his friends, as they look for the golden fleece, in order to save Camp Half-Blood’s magical borders from sinister foes.

Look for more on this upcoming sequel between now and its theatrical release.jackson3

Thoughts on the new trailer?

#3- “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug update. Here are some of the latest production stills and one of the first behind-the-scenes videos of Peter Jackson’s upcoming sequel: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. (Click photo for fullscreen slideshow of the stills)

Production Video:

The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13, 2013 and continues the story. Get ready!

What are your thoughts of this sneak peek?

#4- “From Turtles to Gargoyles.” Director Michael Bay (Transformers, The Rock) has opted to leave the Ninja Turtles production. (Hold your applause) While that may make many TMNT fans happy, the bad news is that he has now turned his eyes to ruin yet another childhood fave: Gargoyles.disney-gargoyles-clan

Apparently, after trying to secure a deal with Disney for years, Bay finally received the greenlight to direct a live-action Gargoyles movie which he intends to use motion-capture similar to Avatar and The Avengers for the giant winged protectors of Manhattan. Currently, certain stars are supposedly in talks with the action director for the role of Elisa (the NYPD detective who befriends the Gargoyles), Goliath (the brave leader of the Gargoyles) and David Xanatos (the billionaire nemesis of the Gargoyles). Ironically, Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek’s Cmdr. Riker) who voiced Xanatos in the animated series has expressed interest in playing the role in person.Megan-Fox-with-Michael-Bay

And, when asked about the role of raven-haired Elisa, Bay jokingly mentioned something about asking Megan Fox. I really hope he was joking, although, she might be a better Elisa than an April O’Niel.michael-bay

No news is currently available as to the expected plot for The Gargoyles movie, tentatively entitled “GARGOYLES,” but expect to hear more as time goes on. The tv series that ran from 1994-1996/7 has a big following and is expected to be a big hit.

[UPDATE: for further important details about this development, be sure that you click the link at the bottom of this post]. <<<<<

As for the future of Ninja Turtles…I’m sure the studio is anxious to find a replacement producer (as are the fans), seeing as they cast all of the turtles just last week. gargoyles

Would you rather see Michael Bay direct Gargoyles as opposed to produce Turtles?

#5- “This Week’s Blu-ray release.” This week, look for the following films on Blu-ray to possibly add to your collection: (Note: a SLOW week for dvd releases)

Hemingway and Gellhorn– This HBO drama centered around Ernest Hemingway and a lover of his during WWII stars Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman and grabbed my attention with its trailer earlier last year. It finally releases and I may find myself giving it a view real soon. Check out the trailer below and decide if you will too.

Trailer: hemingway

Several other films also release this week. Check it out!

Also releasing: John Dies at the End, The History Channel’s The Bible mini-series, The Baytown Outlaws, The Sweeney and more.

yeah. I tend to think the same as you. It is matching the lukewarm reception the first one got…perhaps a lil less

    Hi, Terrence and company:

    ‘Gargoyles’???…. Seriously?!!!!

Another Michael Bay “‘splosionFest” where the actors should just stay in the recording booth for a brand new miasma of CGI!

I’d hate to see him tackle a serious film like ‘The Third Man’. He’d just leave Vienna and its sewers an even more smoldering, larger heap of rubble by film’s end!

🙂 My friend, please be sure to read the update for this story at the bottom of the post to see exactly how involved Bay will be in the ‘splostionFest! :d

I must say, I think he may do better with Gargoyles than with Turtles…although it doesn’t look like it’d happen to soon.

      ..happy April 1st 😉

Well now I’m calm now that I’ve read your MNM 😀

I LOVE that The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug production video, ahah even Colbert is involved, too funny! I saw the Gertrude & Gelhorne movie on the plane, it was decent but the audio was so bad I didn’t really get part of the story 😦

      🙂 LOL. glad you’re calm!

Colbert surprised me being in the vid. Yeah, a very slow week and I forgot to mention that the Marvel Phase 1 briefcase finally released.

Had to include something for April Fool’s, didn’t you? 😀

Nicely done. The thing is, it’s entirely believable that Michael Bay would take on and ruin Gargoyles. The only thing that tipped me off is that I didn’t believe he’d leave Ninja Turtles — that would indicate he thought there was a problem, and I don’t think he’s capable of that.

haha. I did. and it was fun.

thanks. I tried to do something that would be believable and this seemed perfect. the response on Reddit was pretty funny! 😉
