Happy Friday! It is time, once again, to check out all of the…
As you know I love checking out and collecting movie posters! With teases of what to expect from the featured film, posters are one of my favorite parts of the whole cinematic experience. If you love movie posters like I do, then you are likely to enjoy the latest ones of the week!
It’s that time again, and, as usual my friend, Bubbawheat (from Flights, Tights and Movie Nights) and I both share our thoughts on the movie posters recently released. These silent movie promoters are the results of the creative brainstorming of some talented (most of them) artists and sometimes can be even more thrilling than the movie they are advertising.
Take a look at this week’s batch: (To view the fullscreen slideshow, click on any one of the posters below and scroll through with the arrow keys.)
TheFocusedFilmographer– I am both impressed and disappointed by a few of this week’s batch. While the “cold steel” feel of The Wolverine is so fitting, The Girl Most Likely posters do nothing that make me want to see the movie…as a matter of fact, they make me NOT want to see it. I laughed at how much Nic Cage looks like John Cusack in The Frozen Ground poster, but the World War Z one neatly puts us in the middle of the mayhem and destruction…adding to the feeling of dismay. Hercules 3D reminds me of Jack the Giant Slayer and thus makes me not like it! As terribly gripping as the trailer is for Prisoners (WOW), I’m not a fan of its first poster. And, even though the “happy sappy” look and feel of Unfinished Song is a bit too loud and annoying, I can appreciate it given the message of the film itself. Overall, my favorite posters this week are: Getaway, The Kings of Summer and The Wolverine.
Bubbawheat– I’m totally with you on the disappointed front. There’s only a couple I really like this week, like you I enjoy the newest The Wolverine poster, and I also really like the style of The Kings of Summer poster, it’s just so whimsical and charming. Blackfish is also very striking, it’s a beautiful image, but at the same time it looks a little abstract. I also like Getaway, but only a little, there’s just something not exciting about the car itself. I really don’t know why we need a shot of Hercules’s butt, or the cliched put-upon wives in the Grown Ups 2 poster. I do like the jail cell framing in Girl Most Likely, but the rest of that poster just isn’t working for me. I also wasn’t too fond of Broken, it feels like a pale imitation of Maniac that we saw last week. Hopefully we’ll get some good stuff next week.
Well, what do YOU think? Which ones are your favorites in this spotlight? Which ones do you like/hate and why? Leave a comment! 🙂
